About Maths in Early Years

Pratham’s intensive work in the field of early childhood education for the past 30 years shows that children have an innate ability to understand Mathematical concepts such as estimation, approximation, comparison, etc. much before they come to school. We, at Pratham, intend to make use of the existing knowledge that children carry and strengthen it to build their foundational Math skills, particularly in the preschool years and early grades.

Pratham’s work in Mathematics includes but is not limited to:

  • Conducting research based on best pedagogical practices for Mathematics

  • Developing compelling course content and engaging learning materials

  • Building and reinforcing teachers’ capacities via online and offline workshops

  • Testing content feasibility, tracking field progress, and documenting program outcomes

Role Description

The Early Years team in Pratham is seeking a Research & Content Associate who can help with the creation of educational content for Math for learners aged 3-8 years. We are looking for applicants with some experience in teaching Math to young learners. Applicants proficient in creating content using digital tools such as MS Word, and Google Suite will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review textbooks and educational materials used in government schools and in Pratham for teaching Math by evaluating their content, structure, and instructional effectiveness

  • Contribute to the development of creating activities, stories, poems, worksheets, and games related to Math

  • Collaborate with other content developers, trainers, and teachers across various states at Pratham to brainstorm, research, and integrate pedagogical trends and best practices in Math

  • Engage with government stakeholders and support Pratham’s state teams to plan & implement existing projects

  • Support with communication efforts to improve the visibility of Pratham’s early years program – events, collaborations, conferences, advocacy, social media etc.

  • Contribute to the development of high-quality training material to train educators teaching in low-resourced settings, ensuring alignment with our learning outcomes and standards

  • Build capacities of teams across central and field locations through training

  • Support relevant data collection and analysis to improve the design and implementation of projects

  • Support documentation of early years programs for internal & external stakeholders

  • Perform additional tasks, as required, by the management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in a relevant field

  • 1-2 years of work experience in the education sector

  • Understanding of Maths and its related concepts for the 3-8 years age group

  • Good attention to detail and some experience in research is crucial

  • Proficiency in English and Hindi language, with excellent listening and comprehension skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with teams

  • Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Passionate about promoting social change through education

  • Openness to travel

Location

The position will be based in New Delhi.

Reporting

The selected candidate will report to the Early Year Content Lead.
